Plus shortlisted as a finalist in five other categories for the Lawyers Weekly Australian Law Awards 2020

For the first time, Proximity has been selected as a finalist in six categories at the prestigious Lawyers Weekly Australian Law Awards 2020.

We are delighted to announce that we have been successfully shortlisted across all firm categories entered and one individual award category, including;

  • Law Firm of the Year
  • Employer of Choice
  • NewLaw Firm of the Year
  • Pro Bono Program of the Year
  • Government Team of the Year
  • Rising Star of the Year – Declan Norrie

To be shortlisted as a finalist for six awards, including the most coveted award, Law Firm of the Year, is wonderful recognition that we can achieve excellence without following the usual path. “Law Firm of the Year is the most coveted award in our nation’s most prestigious law awards and to be shortlisted together with nine other leading law firms is testament to the commitment and work ethic of the Proximity team and the success of our business model,” said Director, Sean King. “The award takes into consideration outstanding performance, achieving positive outcomes for clients and staff, as well as overall contribution to the advancement of the legal profession, and support of our community via our CSR initiatives.”

Proximity’s shortlisting in the Employer of Choice category focused on ‘going above and beyond for employees’, with the Law Awards judges looking for leadership in staff attraction and retention, and how we place an importance on the quality care of our people. The criteria also focuses on the initiatives for our people that are ‘innovative, unique and vastly different’ and is judged against the availability of other initiatives in the market. “We see this as being of immense significance, as we always strive to put our people and culture first, and to be selected as a finalist is reassurance that our Proximity model really does break the mould, and our team-first culture works,” stated Director, James Dunn.

The NewLaw Firm of the Year category recognises firms that are considered game changers in the legal profession, challenging the traditional law firm model, with a strong focus on innovation. “We are delighted to be shortlisted as a finalist for this category, considering we were shortlisted for this same award by Lawyers Weekly back in 2018. To be nominated again as a finalist two years later for NewLaw Firm of the Year is proof that Proximity has continued to evolve, rethink and redefine our service delivery, business management and staff engagement model”, said Sean King.

To be also shortlisted as a top ten finalist for Pro Bono Program of the Year amongst significantly larger firms is a testament to our pro bono/CSR structure that focuses on valuable community impact. “We are tremendously proud of our CSR and pro bono program, which encompasses all Proximity team members and focuses on valuable community impact. It is real honour to be recognised for supporting our local communities through our pro bono services, sponsorships and volunteering – and we will continue to look for new and effective ways for Proximity to add value in our communities”, said James Dunn.

We are of course delighted to be recognised again as a finalist for Government Team of the Year. Since winning this award back in 2017, we have continued to increase our government-dedicated team, significantly grown our legal advisory capability and fully integrated consulting practice and established ourselves as the leading innovative alternative to the traditional national firms. To be shortlisted as a finalist in this category further validates our focus to continually innovate and look for new ways to provide quality services to the highest standard.

We are also thrilled that Advisor and Manager of CSR and Pro Bono, Declan Norrie, has been shortlisted as a finalist for the Rising Star of the Year award. We always knew Declan was a star on the rise, and this certainly confirms it”, Sean King stated.

We are keeping our fingers crossed for when the virtual Australian Law Awards are announced on Friday 7 August 2020. We can’t wait to celebrate with our team at this virtual event and share in our success together.
