James has over 25 years’ experience as a government lawyer of which 14 years was in senior management roles.

James has extensive experience in the provision of high-level legal and strategic advice. James has extensive experience in statutory interpretation, commercial law, property law, administrative law, legislative drafting, criminal law, freedom of information and corporate governance

.James has specialist regulatory experience. James was the General Counsel at Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority (APVMA)   for 14 years where he guided many high-impact complex regulatory decisions about chemical availability and usage.

In 2017 James was instrumental in the Therapeutic Goods Administration decision to stop the use of transvaginal mesh in women. Protecting public health has always been a primary focus for James.

Outside of work, James enjoys spending time with his family and playing music with his son.
