Tell us how you came to join the Proximity team.

I joined the team through a connection I made with Proximity’s founder. Sean and I have kids at school together and live close by. We started carpooling to and from school and became friends. When it was time to return to work after having my kids, joining Proximity was a logical choice.

What is the best advice you’ve ever been given?

Observe and listen first. You should never go in and think you know the background/history or context of a situation. It is only by observing and listening that you can be in the best position possible to provide good advice. Also, never send an email in the heat of the movement or when under pressure.

What is your proudest moment in a professional context?

My professional career has taken me all over the world, working in India, China, Japan, London, New York, Singapore, Amsterdam, and Manila. It’s given me so many opportunities and allowed me to experience different customs, cultures, languages, and ways of doing business.

What is the best thing about working in the national capital?

Canberra offers amazing opportunities. I’m always impressed by the experiences people have had in the nation’s capital, including the deals they’ve worked on and the policies and legislation they’ve contributed to. Whether you prefer to specialise in bespoke technical areas or be a generalist, Canberra offers opportunities for everyone to advance their careers, make a difference, and participate in cutting-edge projects.

As a manager of people, what is your biggest challenge?

Finding the right combination of quality of work quantity of work, to allow for team and career progression to suit each individual person.

What advice do you give to someone starting out in a career?

Always listen and observe, before you speak or act.

What keeps you awake at night?

Children, mostly. On the work front; deadlines!

With an eye to the future, what does success look like for you?

Being part of a collaborative, dynamic and progressive team.

Away from work, what is your passion?

Family and travel.
