Shyama Chatterjee is a Special Advisor at Proximity with extensive domestic and international experience in commercial law, technology, government and public law. In a rich and varied career spanning private and public sectors, Shyama has worked in-house in large multinational corporations and in large government agencies advising on various aspects of commercial and public law including large complex technology contracts and tenders. Shyama was involved in the forefront of the government’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic, including advising on the commercial and privacy aspects of the vaccine roll out, as well as on emergency requirements Ministerial determinations under the Biosecurity Act.
Shyama regularly advises government departments and agencies on commercial, contract and procurement issues as well as on all aspects of public law including legislation, statutory interpretation, and administrative law.
Shyama has a practical approach to advising her clients and seeks to understand her client’s drivers and objectives, while delivering complex advice in a concise and accessible manner.
As well as holding an Arts degree (Honors Class 1) from Sydney University and a Master of Arts (International Relations) from the Australian National University, Shyama holds a Bachelor of Laws from the University of NSW and a Master of Laws from New York University.
Shyama is looking forward to surviving the teen years with her two young tweens and enjoys putting her poor sense of direction to the test on her ramblings on both nearby Mount Ainslie and further afield.
