Tell us how you came to join the Proximity team.
Proximity was my client when I was at the Department of Industry, and they invited me along to join their table at a Menslink breakfast in early 2020. At that breakfast, I met some of the team, including founders James and Sean. From there, I started having conversations and learned more about the business, and the rest is history!
What is the best advice you’ve ever been given?
Don’t sweat the small stuff.
What is the best thing about working in the national capital?
So many things! As a born and bred Canberran, I couldn’t think of a better place to work. It’s still small enough to have a nice community feel despite being the nation’s capital. We attract fantastic talent through opportunities to work closely with and see the mechanics of Government on the ground. It really is a great place to live.
As a manager of people, what is your biggest challenge?
Convincing people of how amazing they are and providing them with the right opportunities to reach their potential.
What advice do you give to someone starting out in a career?
There is no expectation to know everything right away. Be curious. Be keen. Put your hand up for things even if you don’t know how to do them right away, you don’t know where they might take you.
Away from work, what is your passion?
Gardening – it’s a great way to decompress, and I love to rebuild the environment around me. To have the opportunity to give back and do my bit to reduce my impact on the environment. My other passion is my cars – attending motor sport events and local car shows.
